During IFFR 2010 Martijn was the first Dutch director ever to be nominated for the Tiger Awards with his realistic portrait of the Belgian lower class: C’est deja l’ete. This one-of-a-kind in Dutch cinema is not afraid of making films about less popular subjects: “I don’t make films to entertain people; I want them to feel, to see, to be agitated.”
